SET UP – need 3-4

Job Description:

Arrive prior to serving time to put up tables and chairs, set the dining area and other tasks to make our friends welcome.

Training/Job Requirements:

Basic Training.  Must be capable of moderate lifting, standing, bending, and walking.  Estimated time requirement:  1 hour/meal.  Reports to the Program Director.  Position suitable for children with adult supervision.

CHEF ASSISTANT – need 2-4

Job Description:

Work in the kitchen at the direction of the Chef.  Tasks might include food preparation in advance of the meal and/or transferring food to serving dishes and deliver to tables during the meal.

Training/Job Requirements:

Basic Training. Kitchen Use and Food Safety Training. Must comply with Health

Department regulations. Must wear apron, hair covering, and food service gloves as needed, and be free of afever and any communicable diseases. Job may entail cutting and slicing so experience working with knives and other kitchen utensils is needed to avoid possible injury. Must follow direction and ask for help when needed.  Must be able to work as a team.  Can be a youth position with parental approval.  Must be capable of moderate lifting and standing for long periods of time. Estimated time requirement: 4 hours/meal. Reports to the Chef.

DISHWASHERS – need 2-4

Job Description:

Discard remaining food into the trash.  Prepare dishes for dishwasher.  Follow proper instructions for working the dishwasher and sanitizing the dishes.  Assist in cleaning the kitchen after serving hours at the direction of the Chef.

Training/Job Requirements:

Basic Training. Kitchen Use and Food Safety Training. Must comply with Health

Department regulations. Must understand use of dish machine and 3 compartment sink set up.  Must be free of a fever and any communicable diseases.  Must be able to work as a team.  Must comply with proper storage placement and procedures and be capable of moderate lifting and standing for long periods of time.  May be combined with Chef Assistant position as needed.  Estimated time requirement:  3 hours/meal.  Reports to the Chef.

SERVERS – need 3

Job Description:

Throughout the meal service, replenish place settings, condiments.  Deliver and refill serving dishes. Refill drinks as necessary.  Return dirty dishes to the kitchen for washing as guests finish.  Clean up spills and messes.  

Training/Job Requirements:

Basic Training and Advanced Training. Must engage with our neighbors, have energy and stamina, be able to react quickly and problem solve to ensure prompt service and clean surroundings.  Must know where the proper equipment is located and how to use it.  It is recommended that one volunteer handle dirty dishes and one handle clean dishes to avoid frequent glove changes.  Must be free of a fever and any communicable diseases and be capable of standing and walking continuously for long periods of time.  Estimated time requirement:  2 hours/meal.  Reports to the Program Director.  Position suitable for children to assist in certain tasks with adult supervision.

GREETER – need 1 per entry door

Job Description:

Greeters will be positioned at each entry door to welcome, assist with special needs, and seat neighbors at tables.  Greeters must strive to address our neighbors by name. Provide name tags.  Gather data.  Inquire about allergies.  Count the number of guests.

Training/Job Requirements:

Basic Training and Advanced Training.  Be personable and friendly, this will be the first person that the guests encounter and as such they have the responsibility of making a good first impression.  Over time the Greeters should learn recurring visitors’ names so that they can be greeted on a first name basis.  Greeters must be capable of responding to any special needs of the entering guests and assisting guests to their seats if needed.  Greeters will have a chair available to sit as necessary.  Estimated time requirement:  2 hours/meal. Reports to the Program Director.  Position suitable for children with adult supervision.

HOSTS – need 10 (1 per table of 10 guests)

Job Description:

One host per table. Engage our guests and volunteers.  Encourage conversation to build relationships. Promote the core values of the meal.  Identify special needs and offer resources via programs in the area.   Hosts will be particularly attentive to the ways in which our neighbors might have talents to share.

Training/Job Requirements:

Basic Training and Advanced Training.  Must have natural talent at building relationships and conversing with strangers on a one-to-one basis.  Have a working knowledge of available assistance programs in the area (resources to be provided).  No physical restrictions are foreseen with regards to this position.  Estimated time requirement 2 hours/meal.  Reports to the Program Director.

CLEAN UP (other than the kitchen) – need 3

Job Description:

Clear tables of all places settings and meal service. Put away chairs and tables.  Dust mop the floor.  Check the facilities and parking lot area to ensure that all trash is disposed of.  Collect any lost and found items and store in church office.

Training/Job Requirements:

Basic Training. Must be capable of moderate lifting, standing, bending, and walking. Can be combined with other positions.  Estimated time requirement:  1 hour/meal.  Reports to the Program Director.  Position suitable for children with adult supervision.

Photographer – need 1

Job Description:

Take photographs of our community experience that suggest stories of friendship and mutual sharing to be used for sharing within the church and community

Training/Job Requirements:

Basic Training and Advanced Training. Must have experience in capturing photos that tell a story.  Estimated time requirement:  2 hours/meal.  Reports to the Program Director.

Journalist - need 1

Job Description:

Collect stories of friendship, mutual sharing, and blessings experienced from our volunteers and guests to be used for sharing within the church and community.

Training/Job Requirements:

Basic Training and Advanced Training. Must be gifted in writing and story telling.  Estimated time requirement:  2 hours/meal.  Reports to the Program Director.

Debriefer - need 1

Job Description:

Facilitate a conversation after the meal for volunteers to reflect on the successes, the needs, and the learnings of the experience.  Be particularly mindful of the transformative stories that may be shared and refer them to our journalist.  Record the findings and present them to our Program Director.

Training/Job Requirements:

Basic Training and Advanced Training.  Must be good at listening and drawing out positive stories and constructive criticism.  Estimated time requirement:  1 hour/meal.  Reports to the Program Director.

ONSITE JANITOR - need 1

Job Description:

Address any immediate custodial needs.

Training/Job Requirements:

Basic Training and Advanced Training.  Must able to respond swiftly to needs and manage thorough clean up.  Estimated time requirement:  2 hours/meal.  Reports to the Program Director.
